The nominees for the BBC's 2018 African Footballer of the Year shortlist have been announced. The shortlist, which has been compiled by a panel of African football experts, comprises Medhi Benatia (Morocco), Kalidou Koulibaly (Senegal), Sadio Mane (Senegal), Thomas Partey (Ghana) and Mohamed Salah (Egypt). The vote opened at 7pm GMT on Saturday 17 November and is set to close on Sunday 2 December, with the results due be announced on Friday 14 December at 17:30. Liverpool and Egypt striker Salah was last year's winner, in a year that saw him make the switch from Serie A with Roma to the Premier League and lead his country to a first World Cup finals since 1990. Madagascar has qualified for their first ever Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be hosted by Cameroon after beating Equatorial Guinea by a lone goal. Ballon d'Or Announces 2 New Awards - For Young Talent & Women Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi will form part of a panel that will vote on a new award added to the Ballon d’Or family this year: the Kopa Trophy. Named after Raymond Kopa, the legendary Reims, Angers, Real Madrid and France striker, who won the inaugural Ballon d’Or in 1958, the award will go to the game’s outstanding young player aged under 21. Ronaldo and Messi, though, will not be alone on a panel of illustrious talents. EPISODE 1 My first day at the university was not different from my first day at church. I can see that look on your face when I mention church. It came as a surprise to me when I was called to come for my admission letter. When I came for the letter, I was given only two days to prepare. When I say prepare you know what I mean. I mean to come and pay my fees if not I will lose my place to someone on the standby list. I gave the letter to my guardian when I got home that day. He asked me if I am interested in taking up the course. I replied heavily with yes!!! All the preparations began. I went to the hospital for a test and an x ray. All these were necessary requirements before you are admitted. The doctor has written his report which I sent to the school on the day of registration.
