Cancellation Of Ghana Vrs Sierra Leone Qualifier: 3, 4 or 6 Points Up For Grabs?
Ghana was due to play Sierra Leone in a double Africa cup of Nations qualifier but the match was cancelled by CAF on Tuesday evening before the first leg on Thursday.
The cancellation of the match came as a result of Sierra Leone Football Association failure to convince FIFA on their suspension.
The SLFA was suspended by FIFA due to government's interference in football affairs.
Now after the cancellation of the match against Ghana a lot of talking points have being ongoing on the air waves.
A lot of football fans have being digesting the issue. Some were saying Ghana will be awarded 3 points. Others also said Ghana will get 4 points and the big dreamers also were voicing out that we will be given 6 points from the two matches.
Moving on, what has the experts been saying? Well the experts are saying that all the matches against Sierra Leone will be nullified. This means it will become a three teams group with Ghana, Ethiopia and Kenya.
The counties that have played against Sierra Leone and won, their points will be nullified. This means Ethiopia played against Sierra Leone and won so that point will be scrapped.
On the other hand, the experts are saying CAF will wait and see if the Sierra Leone FA is able to settle their suspension with FIFA then the matches will be replayed. But if the SLFA is not able solve their problems with FIFA then they will be removed from the group for rest of the qualifiers.
So this means Ghana will not be getting any point from the cancelled match.
For the mean time Ghana is scheduled to play Kumasi Asante Kotoko in a friendly match on Friday 12th October.
